Try as I might, I couldn’t find anything insightful or honest enough to write about this week, but I also couldn’t bear the thought of breaking my streak so here I am. Marking attendance.
This week I read
People Person by Candice Carty-Williams - Fiction is still my first love and I’d enjoyed her first book so I was delighted to receive this book as a gift recently. People person is a story about five siblings from four different women with one father in common. It felt like nuanced story telling to me. It also felt very current and relatable. Really enjoyable read.
Bomb Shelter: Love, Time, and Other Explosives by Mary Laura Philpott - I picked this one randomly after I saw it on @nightstands2 Instagram page. This was such a comforting read. I’d never heard of the author before but she writes so well. Memoirs are not my fave genre but I really enjoyed how the author shared the hopes and dreams and thoughts and fears that make up her life. It also made me feel like I need to write mine soon. Great read.
This week I listened to
An episode of Dare to Lead where Brene and Dr Pippa Grange talked about living with less fear. Dr Grange is a renowned sports psychologist, culture coach and author, which I think is the coolest job description/title I’ve heard in a while. Her work involves helping sports teams improve their performance by changing their culture. She talks about the how toxic cultures can have a negative impact on the well being of athletes and subsequently affect their performance negatively. Personally, I am really excited about these conversations that highlight the importance of our emotions and considering the human as a whole, rather than separate functional parts.
The days are longer and the warmer so I guess summer is here. I say guess because I’m still wearing a fleece hoodie to work today. Spent a wholesome day this past weekend catching up with some of my mamas and babies and I definitely feel somewhat replenished.
Here’s wishing you a week that fills you with gratitude.
Chioma.
P.S: I came across an interesting story the other day, about a Burger King employee who hadn’t missed a day of work in 27 years. You should check out the gifts his employer rewarded him with.
Well done for pushing through and doing it anyway!!!
