Doing the things
Greetings dear friend,
I hope this letter meets you well.
It has been a whole year since the world as we used to know it changed as a result of COVID 19
and we have had to make many changes to our lives as they used to be.
Personally, this has not been all bad.
I have managed to use this time to do a lot of personal deep diving and development.
One of the things I did last year was a challenge called 75Hard, created by Andy Frisella.
This was a 75 days long challenge that had the following requirements:
Two 45min workouts daily (one must be outdoors)
Drink 1 gallon/3.78L/128 fl oz
Read 10 pages of a book (no audiobooks allowed)
Follow a diet
Take a progress photo daily
No alcohol
The first time I heard about this challenge, my reaction was something along the lines of "God forbid."
The second time I heard about it, I paused and thought, maybe I can try a modified version of this, for a shorter period.
So that's what I committed to and on the 1st of October 2020, I, with the support of a whatsapp group created by another brilliant woman I know, embarked on what has been a transformative experience. I completed the 30 days I committed to and went on to finish the entire 75 day challenge. And now I believe there is almost nothing I can not achieve.
The second transformative event of the past year was reading Atomic Habits by James Clear.
I can't say that this book changed my life in the same way that I have seen most people say.
What I can say is that this book was an affirmation.
An affirmation that I know the things.
And have been doing the things.
Which has translated to a kick in the behind to keep doing the things.
And to help more people do the things.
So my friends, that is what this is about.
Doing the things.
I intend to share my stories with you, as well as practical things that I have done which have helped me. And the things I have learnt from the amazing people (mostly women) that I surround myself with.
Over the years I have witnessed people around me exemplify some of these things I hope to share and I know how much seeing the talk being walked has positively impacted my life and I am hoping to use this as a medium to recreate that impact.
It is okay to be skeptical. That was me once. And it is not always a bad thing.
I've gone from the glass with a hole in it girl to the girl with many glasses which are full and running over.
So stick with me and see.
I ask that you read or listen with an open mind and most of all that you actually DO.
I am far from perfect, very far infact. I am still figuring things out, but I know that it can be more fun to figure things out when you have friends to do it with, so my darling, this is an invitation for us to figure it out together.
This means I would love to hear from you as well. So please feel free to write me back as many times as you would like.
My hope is that these letters will become a guide of sorts, the gentle loving drag you need to get off your ass, a source of encouragement and a good way to catch up with you my friends. Feel free to invite a friend or two.
Speak soon,
Chioma.
